Today's ToK Lesson

Today many students were absent, either because of the House Leader retreat, or the rain, or both.

We had 9 students and we went to Mr Dunbar's class and talked about language.

It's an interesting idea: talking about language.  We are using language to analyze language.

There is an old Zen saying: a sword cannot cut itself.

Our First ToK lesson

Today I was late.

On my way to class, I saw Mr Redlich talking to a new Year 7 student.

It was 11:29 and both Mr. Redlich and the new boy seemed distressed; they didn’t know what to do.

I knew the boy and I remembered that Mr Edwards had told us “BE NICE TO THE YEAR 7s.”

So, I stopped, and discovered that the boy was trying to find the new students’ party.

I told the boy to come with me, and Mr. Redlich seemed relieved.   He said, “Thank you, Mick.”  I took the boy to meet Ms. Lina and Mr. Randy, and we had a little chat, and agreed that the party was tomorrow.  The student went to his class, and everybody was happy.

Then I went to the ToK class and I apologized for being late.

The students looked at me like I was crazy—they couldn’t give a rat’s ass.
